I’ve researched and scraped together amazing scientific studies and real world examples of how our understanding of motivation is drastically changing. These are profound shifts taking place and DORS is a way for us to take it all in and actually do something with this new knowledge
So what follows is a distillation of the greatest tools I've come across in my journey to discover the best way to motivate you to accomplish your life goals. I discovered that all of the ideas I came across could be broken down to 4 major areas
Those four areas; Declare, Obstacles, Resources, Steps, formed the foundation of a new way to accomplish a life goal. They formed a system designed from the ground up to keep you motivated to finish your amazing journey. I call it DORS. I hope this helps
Declare. The power of writing down a goal is powerful. It's a commitment to yourself, to what you want to be, how you want to be remembered. So we not only want to declare an addition to our bucket list, but we want to flesh it out as much as possible. Since you only get one, we want to go deep on choosing the right one. This is not, 'Paint the Garage' after all. This is 'Go to Burning Man' we're talking about. Big dreams, big wishes. We want to make sure they have the best chance of success so we'll go over a number of tools to help you get the most out of your commitment
Obstacles. A vague notion of an obstacle is more powerful than a defined foe. Don't just leave it at 'I don't have the time/money/knowledge/etc'. In this step, we give shape and form to the reasons we have not already completed this goal of ours. If it so important to us, why haven't we completed it before now? A defined enemy can be beaten
Resources. Never before in the history of the world have extraordinary resources been so plentiful and so free. We help each other discover some great ones
Steps. They say no great journey ever happened without a first step. After that, there is only the next step. This simplistic view sounds like the severe lack of planning will doom the bucket list item. After all, 'Nobody plans to fail, they just fail to plan.' Planning only one step at a time seems crazy to accomplish a long term goal, but please let me present some compelling recent discoveries that suggest just the opposite is true
As long as we can stay motivated, we should be able to accomplish pretty much about anything with these four simple stges
